This image of workers in a tire factory in Phnom Penh (Cambodia) was taken in the 1970s. It illustrates the dislocation of major manufacturing processes from Europe and North America to developing countries, which was one result of the spectacular rise of multinational enterprises (MNE) in those years. Internationally operating enterprises existed already at the end of the 19th Century when technological progress lead to a first wave of global economic integration. The importance of these companies increased noticeably after WWII.

The vicuña is a small llama resembling a camel but without any humps. It lives high in the Andes at between 3800 and 4600 meters. It produces one of the most beautiful raw materials in the world. Its very fine wool, sacred to eyes of the Inca, is used by luxury brands to manufacture coats, scarves, gloves, ponchos and bedclothes.
In 1975 there were only 6000 vicuñas remaining due to illegal hunting for their valuable wool. The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), adopted in 1973, has chosen to protect this animal.

In October 2012, the Philippine Government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) reached an historic peace agreement to end decades of conflict in the south of the Philippines. According to some estimates, the conflict has caused the death of at least 120,000 and the displacement of a further 2 million people.
This framework agreement opens the path to the creation of a ministerial form of government in Mindanao, south Philippines, for the first time, as well as the development of a basic law by the Bangsamoro people.
