Can the financial sector help solve some of the major challenges world agriculture is facing ? This question, among others, will be debated during the Building Bridges Week that will take place in Geneva between 7 and 11 October 2019. Building Bridges Week's objective is to foster new conversations and collaborations that will accelerate the finance industry’s contribution to the achievement of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals. The 113th Session of the IOM Council will take place from 29 November to 2 December. As underlined by Director General Antonio Vitorino in the 2023 Programme and Budget: "the past year has been one of institutional growth at a time of proliferating crisis (...) New challenges have emerged to which IOM has been called to respond, from Afghanistan to Pakistan, to Ukraine, while still supporting long-standing displacement situations from Bangladesh to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, to Yemen." On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the League of Nations, the federal, cantonal and municipal authorities have decided to renew their commitment to international Geneva. On 16 September 2019, they signed a joint declaration to this effect. The event was followed by a public event at the University of Geneva.
