Inauguration of ICRC's new logistics hub | September 2011
On September 14, 2011, the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) inaugurated its new logistics hub in Satigny, near Geneva International Airport. This new building is meant to support ICRC's activities worldwide and deliver medical equipment to populations in emergency situations.

August 2012   What's going on this summer at the UN Information Service in Geneva? Summer is always particularly busy for the Information Service as we host lots of students, especially those who participate in our Graduate Study Programme in July, as well as the many tourists who take guided tours around the Palais des Nations. In addition, this year we are preparing for the Open Day on September 15th, when we expect to welcome thousands of local families.

Teaser On 11 May 2021, to mark the 150th anniversary of the Central Tracing Agency (CTA), the ICRC and the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) organize the high-level online discussion "Transforming the global response for missing persons" with the participation of Ignazio Cassis, Federal Councilor, and head of the FDFA and Peter Maurer, President of the ICRC. This moving scene of a reunited family took place in July 2016 in the Makamba province, Burundi.

Teaser June 2022 marks the 50th session of the Human Rights Council. Fifty years ago, on June 19, 2006, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Kofi Annan opened the first session of the Human Rights Council at the Palais des Nations and said : "Human rights are from the third of the three pillars, with economic and social development and peace and security, on which all the work of the United Nations must be based."

Teaser To mark its 75th anniversary, the World Health Organization (WHO) presents the exhibition "Picturing Health, 75 years of progress and challenges" at Quai Wilson from 3 April to 1 May. For over 70 years, the WHO has assigned professional photographers to document its efforts to advance health for all, today constituting a collection of more than 58'000 images. As part of the exhibition, this portrait of a mother and child suffering from smallpox was taken in the early 70s by renowned Indian photojournalist T. Satyan. In 1980, the 33rd World Health Assembly endorsed the conclusions of the Global Commission for Certification of Smallpox Eradication that smallpox had been eradicated worldwide and that the return of the virus was unlikely." The Smallpox Archives are, since 2017, registered in the UNESCO Memory of the World Programme.
